“ENERGY DIRECT NZ” WANGANUI SQUASH OPEN RESULTS It was all business for Wellington players at the Energy Direct NZ Wanganui Squash Open in the weekend as Thorndon’s Willie Bicknell & Wainuiomata’s Tamsyn Leevey took out the Men’s and Women’s titles for 2008. Bicknell was all class when it came to the crunch in the final against local player Kent Darlington winning in the end comfortably 3-0 and only ever being troubled when he was down 7-1 in the first set. Leevey was too strong as well in the women’s draw, and after dropping the second set against Amanda Cranston in the final she won comfortably in four sets. Other highlights from Wanganui players were Ant Rountree (WG) who took out Div 2. After being seeded one he put his latest playing of the local premier competition to good use as he beat fellow club member Jimmy Forest in the final 3-0. Wanganui member Nigel Ward put in a gutsy weekend’s effort after he won two pool play matches in five sets, he then decided to win the final of Div 3 the easy way, 3-0 against Rangitikei’s Jared Parkinson. Rivercity’s Robert Crawford ended up winning Div 5 (WG), while his son Matt won Jnr Div 1, Courtenay Haitana (WG) won the Jnr Div 2 section and new member Zac Forbes won Jnr Div 3. MENS OPEN:
