2008 Financepoint Squash Series - Round Five The 5th round of the Finance Point series took place last Tuesday night, with this being the last round before this Friday’s final’s night the race was on to secure the finals positions. Match of the round was between Tim Preston and Brendan Murphy with Preston edging home 9/6 in the 5th to earn “Player of the Night” also worth a mention was Derek Tankersley winning over Brent Foster helping Higgins to a 3-1 victory and securing 2nd place after round robin play. The Wanganui players to shine were John Rostenburg who won his doubles match 3-1, Ken Mair & Nihi Houia who just scraped home in a close 5 setter as well for their doubles. This round also saw Kevin Ross fill in & after leading 2-1 he couldn’t quite manage to bring it home, eventually going down in five sets. Another appearance was made by Kent Darlington as he has been struggling with injury of late & needing a hit out before the NZ Nationals he lost in a competitive 3 sets to top Palmerston North player Mike McSherry. So to the Finals match-ups, we will see Watties vs Higgins for top honours, Doyles vs Inspire Net for 3rd, and Sportsedge vs Automotive Direct for 5th place.
