2008 Finance Point Squash Series - Round two
Tuesday night saw the second round of Financepoint Squash Series held at the Wanganui Squash Club. The were many 5 set matches and overall some very competitive squash with 2 ties of the 3 being decided by points countback.
Wanganui players featured well with a Player of the Night performance from Ant Rountree of Watties. He scored a fantastic win over his higher graded opponent, Ben Murphy of Automotive Direct 3-0. Nihi Houia & Ken Mair won their doubles match in five, Matt Doyle got bragging rights for his win with teammate Grant Smith in the doubles against his workmate John Rostenberg & his teammate Alan Van Rynbach, while fill in Kevin Ross battled hard against his opponent only to go down in a close 3 setter.
Other matches worth a mention were an extremely competitive match between Sportsedge’s Craig Morrison and Inspire’s Brent Foster that ended in a win to Craig Morrison 10/8 in the fifth, and a marathon 5 set win by Blair Landers (Inspire), 10/9 in the fifth over Tyron Fourie (Sportsedge). The next round is at Palmerston North on Tuesday 5th August.
