B Grade & Below Tournament 2009

The Wanganui Squash Club B & Below Squash Tournament saw a promising junior from Rangitikei, Dylan Tasker take the overall title and with it the inaugural Peter Vine Memorial Trophy.  It was a befitting end to the tournament for Tasker. Last year Tasker was pulled up into the B Grade division after the unfortunate passing of Vine.  He ended up losing all his games, but what a difference a year makes!

After playing & training out of Squashgym Palmerston North and being part of its Academy squad, Tasker is moving up the ranks quickly.  He came into this years draw as the 5th seed and in the second round he exerted his presence in defeating the top seed Ant Rountree in a close four setter.   He went on to dominate the final against Hawera’s Mike Careswell 9/4 9/6 9/2, easily winning the title for 2009. Tasker now looks forward to heading to the NZ Junior Open in Auckland on the 17th -19th April.

The Womens B Grade draw saw Charvae McLean-Woon from the Rivercity Club continue her good form. After being pushed in pool play & winning one match 10/8 in the fifth set she defended her title from last year by winning all pool play matches, then in the final she defeated former Wanganui player Carla Smith who now plays out of Lugton Park in the Waikato 3 games to nil.

Other highlights were Hayden Marshall (Kawaroa Park) winning Mens Div 2 after being seeded 7th and Sam Laurenson (Ohakune) winning Mens Div 4 after he was seeded 8th! More Results Here

WANGANUI VS RIVERCITY CLUB CHALLENGE 2008

Date: Saturday 18th October 2008
Location: Wanganui Squash Club The Great Club Challenge went down a treat. With some tough fought matches and some interclub rivalry….and a turn coat or one…..Rivercity Squash Club took our the title, THIS year.

Next year will be OURS!!! Personally I blame the night before as there seemed to be a fair few members who had had a hard night…now that shows dedication!!! If you talk to Donna though, she blames Dave!!! Thank you to everyone who participated and helped get this event organised. A special Thank You to Donna who was the mover and shaker and got things rolling, and to those who stayed on for dinner, I hope you all had a lovely dinner. It was great to see everyone providing a little something even if you couldn’t stay. See results here...
